Double Grief in Japanese Boxing: Kotari and Urakawa Pass Away After Fights
The boxing world is in mourning following the tragic loss of two Japanese boxers, Shigetoshi Kotari and Hiromasa Urakawa, who died due to brain injuries sustained during fights at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on August 2nd. Both pugilists, aged 28, competed on the same card, although in different fights, leaving a deep sadness in the boxing community. Shigetoshi Kotari, after a 12-round fight that ended in a draw against the junior lightweight champion of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation, Yamato Hata, lost consciousness shortly after the fight. He underwent brain surgery to treat a subdural hematoma, but unfortunately passed away due to the injury.Hiromasa Urakawa also lost his life on Saturday, after suffering brain injuries in his fight against Yoji Saito, where he was knocked out. Urakawa also underwent a craniotomy to treat a subdural hematoma.Rest in peace, Shigetoshi Kotari.
