The announcement of this fight for the 155-pound title was made on Wednesday, generating great expectation for this second encounter since January, when Nurmagomedov defeated Hughes by majority decision. In their first encounter, also held in Dubai, Nurmagomedov (19-0), cousin of MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, although he looked dominant in his role as Bellator MMA defending champion, was challenged by Hughes, who pushed him to the limit in the inaugural fight for the PFL lightweight title.

Hughes expressed that he felt he had won the fight and called the judges’ scorecards “quite ridiculous”.

Paul Hughes
Hughes, 28, achieved a knockout victory in the first round against Bruno Miranda in May. Nurmagomedov, for his part, has not competed since his victory over Hughes. In addition, PFL announced a light heavyweight fight between Corey Anderson and Dovlet Yagshimuradov for the October 3rd event.
