James Cook Secures His Future with the Bills: Million-Dollar Extension

Running back James Cook and the Buffalo Bills have reached an agreement on a four-year, $48 million contract extension, according to his agents to Alofoke Deportes. The agreement includes a $30 million guarantee, the highest figure for a broker in the last five years. This extension comes a day after Cook returned to Bills training on Tuesday, after a four-day absence that included missing the team’s first preseason game. Cook actively participated in Tuesday’s session, wearing the full uniform.

James could only imagine himself as a Buffalo Bill. We are very grateful to the entire Bills organization and happy that we were able to achieve this.

The Bills had expressed their desire to reward Cook throughout the offseason, with negotiations that began early and extended into training camp. Cook is Buffalo’s lead running back, although he is part of a group. Last season, he was on the field for just over 45% of offensive plays, with Ty Johnson and Ray Davis also receiving opportunities. In a Bills offense that broke several records, Cook tied a team record with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 and was fifth in yards before contact per carry (3.1). He took a significant step during the 2024 season, doubling his touchdown total from the previous two seasons (nine) in a single year (18).
