Changes in the Celtics’ Governance After the Sale to Bill Chisholm

Sources close to the situation revealed that Wyc Grousbeck will no longer hold the position of governor as part of the sale of the Boston Celtics to Bill Chisholm for $6.1 billion.

Grousbeck is expected to maintain his position as CEO, as planned, and to act as alternate governor once the sale is complete.

When the sale was announced in March, it was communicated that Grousbeck would continue as governor and CEO until 2028. However, in recent days, the NBA Board of Governors was notified that Chisholm will assume the title of governor going forward.

It is expected that the sale will be finalized next week.

In March, Grousbeck, whose family leads the group that acquired the Celtics in 2002 for $360 million, stated that Chisholm asked him to remain as CEO and governor for the next three seasons, adding that he was “happy to do so”.

Chisholm and his wife, Kimberly, are taking an active approach in the Boston community as they begin their tenure as owners.

The Celtics have won 18 NBA titles, a league record, surpassed only by the New York Yankees (27) and the Montreal Canadiens (24) in North American professional sports leagues.
