American midfielder Djordje Mihailovic joins Toronto FC from the Colorado Rapids in a transfer that could reach $9 million, according to MLS clubs. The agreement secures $8 million for the Rapids, with the possibility of adding up to an additional $1 million based on certain performance objectives. This transaction becomes the second highest in MLS history for a player, surpassed only by the signing of Evander by FC Cincinnati. In addition, Colorado retains a percentage of a future sale of the player, who has signed a Designated Player contract with Toronto until 2028, with an option to extend it until 2029. Mihailovic, who arrived at the Rapids in January 2024 from the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, requested the transfer for “personal reasons”.

I want to thank everyone at the Colorado Rapids for everything they have done for me over the past year. This club brought me back from Europe and supported me in my dream of representing the United States in the Olympics.

The player added that he appreciates the Rapids’ understanding and professionalism in facilitating his transfer. Mihailovic expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, staff, and fans, promising to carry positive memories of his time at the club.
