Sean Strickland Indefinitely Suspended After Altercation at MMA Event

Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from all competition following an incident at an MMA event held in June in Las Vegas. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) made the decision to indefinitely suspend Strickland, 34.

Indefinite suspension is a common practice of the commission, which suspends licensed athletes or their corner team until an official sanction is issued at a disciplinary hearing. Strickland’s hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but the commission decided to postpone it to a later date. The altercation took place on June 29th at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after his trained fighter, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. After Hernandez’s victory, he provoked Hunsinger’s corner, which caused Strickland and UFC fighter Chris Curtis to react. Videos captured Strickland throwing several punches at Hernandez. It is highly probable that the UFC will not schedule any fights for Strickland until this legal matter is resolved. Strickland hasn’t fought since February, when he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis.
