Toronto Jays Demolish Rockies in Historic Series
The Toronto Blue Jays concluded a memorable series in Denver, adding more problems to the Colorado Rockies. The offensive performance of the Jays was impressive, setting new records and leaving an indelible mark on the season.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led the attack with four hits, including a home run, while Davis Schneider shone with two home runs. The Blue Jays won with a score of 20-1 in the last game of the series at Coors Field.
Toronto’s offense was relentless, accumulating 63 hits in the series, the most for a team in a three-game set since 1900. This dominance translated into a franchise record of 45 runs scored in the series, marking the sixth time in Jays history (since 1977) that they have surpassed 20 runs in a game.
Bo Bichette and Ernie Clement also contributed home runs for the American League East leaders, who hit a total of 13 home runs in the series. Ty France stood out with four doubles, and Clement added four hits to his personal count.
Bichette and Daulton Varsho, who didn’t play on Wednesday, accumulated 10 RBIs each in the series, becoming the first pair of teammates to achieve this feat in a series of three games or less since 2000.
Guerrero extended his on-base streak to 23 games, the longest active in the American League.
In the ninth inning, Toronto scored eight additional runs, with Colorado catcher Austin Nola allowing eight hits, including home runs by Schneider and Clement.
Kevin Gausman (8-8) shone on the mound, allowing only one run and three hits in seven innings, with six strikeouts and two walks.
In the third inning, Bichette hit a three-run homer that put the Jays up 3-1. Nathan Lukes drove in two runs with a triple in the fifth, and Schneider hit a home run off Angel Chivilli to start a five-run sixth inning. Guerrero hit his home run in the eighth.
On the other hand, the Rockies (30-84) continue their difficult season.
