Jordan Addison Suspended for Three Games at the Start of the Season

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has been suspended for the first three games of the NFL season due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, it was announced on Tuesday. Addison, who has been the Vikings’ second receiver for the last two seasons, will miss the opening game against the Chicago Bears, as well as the home games against the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be eligible to return in the Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin. On July 17, Addison pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge to resolve a 2024 DUI citation. The plea agreement, a reckless driving charge on a highway, made him subject to NFL discipline, as it acknowledges the use of alcohol in a driving incident. Agreed to pay a fine of $390 and received 12 months of probation, which, according to his agent Tim Younger, could be reduced by half if he completes two online courses. Addison, the Vikings’ first-round pick in 2023, was charged in July 2024 with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of at least 0.08% after a West Los Angeles police officer found him asleep at the wheel of a white Rolls Royce blocking a westbound lane of the I-105 near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The incident occurred almost a year after Addison was cited for driving 140 mph on a Minnesota highway in July 2023. He subsequently agreed to plead guilty to a lesser speeding charge, with a reckless driving charge dismissed. He paid $686 in fines. In two seasons with the Vikings, Addison has started in 29 games, accumulating a total of 133 receptions for 1,786 yards and 19 touchdowns. The main candidate to replace him in the Vikings’ starting lineup is fourth-year receiver Jalen Nailor, who started seven games in 2024.
