Isaac Paredes Opts for Rehabilitation Instead of Surgery

Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has decided to avoid surgery to treat his right hamstring injury. Instead, he will focus on rehabilitation with the hope of returning to the field this season, according to general manager Dana Brown. Paredes, 26, who is batting .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs on the season, was placed on the injured list on July 20 after suffering the injury while running to first base. Brown described the injury as “severe”. The player has received a platelet-rich plasma injection and has undergone multiple imaging tests. His rehabilitation, which will take place primarily in Houston with the team, will begin after a “long period” of rest before starting any type of exercise, Brown explained.

His opinion is that he wants to strive to return this season.

If Paredes were to undergo surgery, his return would be delayed at least six months. The Astros were proactive in the transfer market, acquiring infielder Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. Correa, who has already been Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Star with the Astros, has agreed to change positions, moving from shortstop to third base, while Paredes is out. The Astros (63-50) lead the American League West Division, with approximately 50 games remaining in the regular season.

He’s doing well and working hard. He’s in good spirits and I know he’d rather be on the field. We’re hoping for the best.
