Sean Strickland Indefinitely Suspended After Altercation at MMA Event
UFC middleweight ex-champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from all competition after being involved in an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event held in Las Vegas last June.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has imposed an indefinite suspension on Strickland, 34, due to his involvement in the incident. It is common for the commission to suspend athletes or members of their licensed team until an official sanction is determined at a disciplinary hearing.
Strickland’s case was scheduled to be discussed at the commission’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, but it was decided to postpone the hearing to a future date.
The incident took place at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29th in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after Miles Hunsinger, a fighter he trains, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez.
Immediately after the victory, Hernandez provoked Hunsinger’s corner, which drew a response from Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing several punches at Hernandez.
The UFC, almost certainly, will not announce any fight for Strickland until this matter is resolved.
Strickland hasn’t fought since he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis in February.
