Daryl Dike, out for the start of the season with West Bromwich Albion

American striker Daryl Dike will not be available for the start of the season with West Bromwich Albion due to a thigh injury. This is the latest in a series of health setbacks for the 25-year-old player.

The team announced on Friday that Dike suffered the injury during a training session and will resume training after the international break in early September.

Dike suffered a rupture of his right Achilles tendon against Stoke on April 15, 2023, and returned on January 7, 2024, playing the first half in an FA Cup match against Aldershot. He re-injured his left Achilles tendon against Ipswich on February 10, just five games after his return.

Dike returned on February 15 against Millwall, in the first of 10 substitute appearances, and started in the last game of the season against Luton on May 3.

Dike arrived at West Brom from Orlando City of Major League Soccer in January 2022.

He suffered a hamstring injury that prevented him from finishing the season in his first start, against Peterborough on January 22, 2022, and tore a thigh muscle at the start of the 2022-23 season against Stoke on July 30, 2022. He returned on November 12 in West Brom’s last match before the World Cup break, and then ruptured his right Achilles tendon the following spring.

Dike has three goals in 10 appearances for the United States national team.
