Blake Snell Returns with Loss Against the Rays
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ left-handed pitcher, Blake Snell, had a bittersweet return to the rotation, suffering a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
Snell, who hadn’t pitched in the Major Leagues since April 2 due to a left shoulder injury, allowed a home run to the first batter he faced, Yandy Díaz, and another home run by the same Díaz, who had an outstanding performance.
In total, Snell gave up three runs on five hits, striking out eight batters in five innings. The Dodgers ended up losing the game with a score of 4-0.
Díaz hit a two-run homer in the third inning, adding his 20th home run of the season. In addition, he hit a single against Snell in the fifth inning.
Before his injury, Snell had participated in two games with the Dodgers this season, after signing a five-year, $182 million free agent contract during the offseason.
Snell, 32, and a two-time Cy Young Award winner, played last season with the San Francisco Giants and three previous seasons with the San Diego Padres.
On Saturday, Snell faced another of his former teams, the Rays, with whom he won the American League Cy Young Award in 2018, and where he received his only All-Star honor that year.
