Sean Strickland Indefinitely Suspended After Incident at MMA Event
UFC middleweight ex-champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from all competition after being involved in an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event held in Las Vegas last June.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has indefinitely suspended 34-year-old Strickland for his involvement in the incident. It is a common practice for the commission to suspend a licensed athlete or team member until an official sanction is issued at a disciplinary hearing. Strickland’s case was scheduled for the commission’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, but a vote was taken to postpone his hearing to a future date.
The incident took place at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29th in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the victory, Hernandez provoked Hunsinger’s corner, which led to a reaction from Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing a couple of punches at Hernandez.
It’s almost certain that the UFC won’t announce any fight for Strickland until this matter is resolved. He hasn’t fought since he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis in February.
