Byron Buxton to the Injured List: Twins Adjust Their Roster
The Minnesota Twins have placed star outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list due to left rib cage inflammation.
The decision comes two days after Twins manager Rocco Baldelli reported that Buxton would not need a stint on the injured list.
Buxton, 31, left Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals due to left side discomfort, and did not play on Sunday or Monday. His placement on the injured list is retroactive to Sunday.
Despite the numerous injuries he has suffered throughout his career, the two-time All-Star has been mostly healthy this season, except for his stint on the concussion injured list in May.
Buxton is batting .282 with 23 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 85 games this season. He has an on-base percentage of .343, a slugging percentage of .561, and an OPS of .905. In his career, he is batting .249 with 156 home runs and 412 RBIs in 857 games for the Twins since the 2015 season.
In corresponding roster moves, the Twins reinstated catcher Ryan Jeffers from the paternity list and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Pierson Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul.
Jeffers, 28, is batting .254 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 83 games this season.
Ohl, 25, has yet to debut in the Major Leagues. In 22 games (five starts) split between Class-A Fort Myers, Double-A Wichita and St. Paul, Ohl is 5-2 with a 2.17 ERA and two saves. He has struck out 79 batters and has only walked 10.
