Caelen Carson, Cowboys cornerback, out with injury

The Dallas Cowboys face a setback in their defense. Caelen Carson, the team’s cornerback, will be out of action for 4 to 6 weeks due to a hyperextended knee suffered on Sunday.

The news of the injury was confirmed by sources close to the team. Carson did not participate in Monday’s training, which worsens the situation in a position already affected by absences.

Carson’s absence adds to those of Trevon Diggs and Josh Butler, who are on the physically unable to perform list, and rookie Shavon Revel, on the injured reserve list, all recovering from knee surgeries.

Additionally, DaRon Bland, although he returned on Monday after being absent for the birth of his child, only participated in some exercises and not in the 11-on-11 practices.

Carson, selected in the fifth round in 2025, started in the first game of last season against the Cleveland Browns, but his participation was limited to six games due to an injury that led him to the reserve list.

In his previous season, Carson accumulated 27 tackles and four passes defended.

To reinforce the position, the Cowboys have added Christian Matthew, who tried out with the team on Monday. Matthew, who played for the Baltimore Ravens, also worked with the Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, on the Chicago Bears in 2023.
