Aaron Judge to Injured List with Elbow Strain

Yankees captain Aaron Judge will enter the injured list due to a strain in his right elbow flexor. However, tests performed did not reveal damage to the ulnar collateral ligament of the two-time American League Most Valuable Player. Manager Aaron Boone reported that Judge will have between 10 days and two weeks of rest without throwing and, upon his return, will initially act as a designated hitter. Giancarlo Stanton, who usually occupies the role of designated hitter, will begin training in the outfield.

“In general, we received good news today,” Boone commented after Saturday’s 9-4 loss to Philadelphia. “I think we all feared the worst.”

Judge underwent an MRI on Saturday morning and was not in the starting lineup for the second time this season. Currently, Judge leads the Major Leagues with a batting average of .342 and an OPS of 1.160. In addition, he has hit 37 home runs and accumulated 85 RBIs for the New York team. Judge felt discomfort in Toronto on Tuesday after catching a fly ball from Alejandro Kirk in right field and throwing to second base. He was seen by YES Network cameras clenching his right hand into a fist.

“He had a launch in Toronto that hurt him,” Boone explained.

Aaron BooneJudge served as the designated hitter the next day in the final game of Wednesday’s series, which, according to Boone, was already planned. He played in right field in Friday’s 12-5 loss to Philadelphia.

“He felt good on the off day and last night he was really battling it,” Boone said. “He really couldn’t throw well from the bullpen.”
