Joe Mixon will miss most of the preseason due to injury

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon will be out for most of the preseason due to an ankle injury and will be reevaluated before the start of the regular season, according to a source. Mixon suffered the ankle injury during the offseason and did not participate in team activities or minicamp, which led to him being placed on the non-football injury list at the start of training camp. Mixon, who turned 29 on Thursday, ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024, earning him Pro Bowl honors in his first season with the Texans. The Texans took steps to compensate for Mixon’s possible absence by signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb, after his seven-year stint with the Cleveland Browns, and selecting Woody Marks from USC in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft. The other options to replace Mixon are running backs Dameon Pierce, who is on the Physically Unable to Play list, and Dare Ogunbowale. The Texans have their first preseason game on August 9, when they travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings.
