The news comes a few weeks after Sabu participated in his last match, on WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas, facing Joey Janela at the Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 event. Sabu retired, leaving a legacy of memorable fights and a lasting impact on the industry.
Sabu, trained by his uncle Ed “The Sheik” Farhat, excelled in ECW during the 1990s. His style combined aerial moves with ultraviolent matches, using elements such as barbed wire, chairs, and tables. He was a two-time ECW World Champion, an ECW Tag Team Champion, and an ECW World Television Champion. Sabu starred in memorable rivalries with Rob Van Dam and Taz. In addition, he competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling, WCW and TNA, before a brief stint in WWE in the 2000s, after the company’s purchase of ECW. He participated in WrestleMania 23 in 2007, being part of the ECW Originals team that defeated The New Breed in a tag team match. He was released a month later. Subsequently, after touring the independent scene, Sabu made an appearance in AEW in 2023 as a special “enforcer” in a match between Chris Jericho and Adam Cole. The cause of Sabu’s death has not been revealed.
