Thymen Arensman Surprises in La Plagne and Wins the Alpine Stage of the 2025 Tour
Dutch cyclist Thymen Arensman starred in a remarkable performance in the final alpine stage of the 2025 Tour de France, securing victory at the summit of La Plagne. Arensman, with a display of strength, achieved a two-second lead over Dane Jonas Vingegaard and Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who completed the podium.
This triumph represents Arensman’s second victory in his Tour debut, adding to his previous success in Superbagnères, in the Pyrenees. In addition, the cyclist had already demonstrated his talent in 2022 by winning in Hoya de la Mora, during the Vuelta a España.
The stage, which was shortened by 35 kilometers due to a problem with the ranchers in one of the valleys, saw Arensman distance himself from the group of favorites during the ascent to La Plagne. Despite the efforts of Pogacar and Vingegaard, Arensman maintained his lead and claimed the victory.Pogacar Consolidates His Lead
With two stages to go until the much-awaited arrival at the Champs-Élysées, Tadej Pogacar consolidates his lead with a lead of more than four minutes over Jonas Vingegaard. For his part, the German Florian Lipowitz, after obtaining fourth place in the stage, secured his third place in the general classification, surpassing the British Oscar Onley by 41 seconds.
Everything indicates that these three riders will be the ones to occupy the top spots on the final podium. Lipowitz, 24 years old, seems to have an advantage over Onley, 21 years old, in the fight for third place.
Slovenian Primoz Roglic, who started as fifth in the general classification, suffered a setback in the stage after an initial attack. Roglic finished 12 minutes and 39 seconds behind the winner, which relegated him to eighth place.
Austrian Felix Gall climbed to fifth place, while Norwegian Tobias Johannssen moved up three positions to sixth. Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin maintains seventh position.
The ‘top-10’ is completed by Irishman Ben Healy and Australian Ben O’Connor.
