Nick Ahmed Hangs Up the Spikes: Announces Retirement from Professional Baseball
Two-time Gold Glove winner Nick Ahmed has announced his retirement from professional baseball this Thursday. The news marks the end of a distinguished career of more than a decade in the Major Leagues. Ahmed, 35 years old, left a significant mark on the sport. His career included a decade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, before playing for several teams in the 2024 season, such as the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and, finally, the Texas Rangers, where he played five games. The player was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the MLB draft in 2011, coming from the University of Connecticut.Ahmed also expressed his gratitude to the organizations he represented:“For as long as I can remember, all I wanted to do was play baseball. I got to live out my childhood dream and play for a long time! After 15 professional seasons and over a decade in the big leagues, I am officially hanging up the spikes and retiring from playing,” Ahmed wrote on his social media.
