Josh Okogie Bolsters the Rockets with a One-Year Contract

Free agent forward Josh Okogie has reached an agreement with the Houston Rockets for next season. The contract is for one year and is worth 3.1 million dollars, according to sources close to the negotiation. Okogie, 26, is preparing for his eighth season in the NBA. With his arrival, the Rockets add a versatile defender to their roster. Throughout his career, Okogie has averaged 6.3 points in 416 games. In the past season, Okogie showed significant improvements in his game, setting personal records in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, and effective field goal percentage. Despite this, he participated in a reduced number of games, playing only 40. The agreement was negotiated by Rockets executives and agent Calvin Andrews of Klutch Sports. The previous season, Okogie stood out in defense, averaging 1.2 steals per game, the highest figure of his career. In addition, he ranked fourth in steals per 36 minutes among players who played at least 40 games. Okogie was selected with the 20th pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played four seasons with the Timberwolves before joining the Suns in 2022. In January, Okogie was part of a trade that sent him and three future second-round picks to the Hornets, who released him on July 15.
