Decline in WNBA All-Star Game Viewership, but Still a Good Number
The absence of Caitlin Clark, star of the Indiana Fever, due to an injury, impacted the viewership figures of the WNBA All-Star Game, broadcast on Saturday by ABC. Although a 36% decrease was recorded compared to the previous year, the event managed to attract a considerable number of viewers.
The meeting, held in Indianapolis, was followed by 2.19 million viewers. While this figure is lower than the 3.44 million of the previous year, which set a record, the game remained the most-watched program of the night on television.
Caitlin Clark, who participated as a rookie in the 2024 All-Star Game, was unable to play this year due to a groin injury.
Napheesa Collier, star player for the Minnesota Lynx, shone in the game by scoring 36 points, setting a new record and leading Team Collier to a 151-131 victory over Team Clark.
This is the third consecutive year that ABC broadcasts the All-Star Game in prime time. The 2023 game attracted 850,000 viewers.
Other All-Star Game weekend events were a success. Friday’s WNBA Skills Challenge and Three-Point Contest drew an average of 1.3 million viewers on ESPN, representing an 89% increase compared to the previous year.
