Gonzalo Castillo responds to Abinader regarding public works management comparisons
The presidential candidate for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Gonzalo Castillo, confronted the recent statements made by President Luis Abinader. The president had asserted that the current administration of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has surpassed the twenty years of PLD administration in the number of works executed, a claim that Castillo categorically rejected.
For the political leader, the evaluation of public investment should not be limited to a simple accounting of projects, but must be analyzed under criteria of scope, quality, and the real impact that these infrastructures have generated on national progress and development.
The works highlighted by the PLD
During his speech, Castillo listed a series of key infrastructure projects developed under the PLD governments that, in his view, transformed connectivity and services in the Dominican Republic:
- Road infrastructure: Santo Domingo bypasses (sections 1A, 2A, and 2B), Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, and San Juan. Likewise, he mentioned the San Pedro de Macorís–La Romana road section, the Punta Cana–Macao boulevard, and the Miches–Sabana de la Mar highway.
- Health and security: The construction and delivery of 58 hospitals and 54 police stations in various parts of the national territory.
- Social and community projects: The Don Juan–Yamasá highway, the interventions in the Boca de Cachón community, and various works executed in the province of La Vega.
Ciudad Juan Bosch as a development model
One of the central points in Castillo’s defense was Ciudad Juan Bosch. The presidential candidate emphasized that this complex should not be categorized solely as a housing project, but as a model of comprehensive urban development.
As detailed, the project contemplates complete infrastructure that includes primary and secondary level educational centers, primary care centers, recreational spaces for senior citizens, internal roads, and technical training centers, designed to improve the quality of life of the residents.
Only if we are going crazy can we say that this government has done more public works than the PLD.
Gonzalo Castillo, PLD presidential hopefulFinally, Castillo reiterated that the legacy of the PLD’s administrations is visible throughout the entire country and that the assessment of public works must be an objective exercise that considers the socioeconomic footprint of each project executed during the last two decades.
