The designation of McBride was made by the WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, who is responsible for appointing the replacement players needed for the event. McBride will play for the team led by Napheesa Collier, her teammate on the Lynx. The game will take place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Howard was chosen by Collier in the player draft for the All-Star game. Collier’s team will face Caitlin Clark’s team. This will be McBride’s fifth All-Star appearance, at 33 years old, and the second consecutive. She is currently averaging 14.1 points and 3.1 assists for the Lynx, who are in first place in the league with a 19-4 record. Howard, who was selected by the league’s coaches as one of the 12 reserves, will be out of action for the rest of July due to a left knee injury suffered in Friday’s loss to the Indiana Fever. Howard, the first pick of the 2022 draft, was named an All-Star for the third time this season.
