Tragedy in Mao: Five members of a family die burned in a voracious fire
A heartbreaking tragedy has plunged the Marino Tió sector in the municipality of Mao, Valverde province, into mourning following a devastating fire that occurred early this Tuesday. The incident claimed the lives of five members of the same family, who were trapped while sleeping in their home.
The fatalities were identified by authorities as spouses Yudelka del Carmen Goris and Juan De Liz Ventura. Along with them, three minors passed away: five-year-old Samanta Ventura; an eight-month-old baby, Yadeli Ventura; and a third nine-year-old girl, whose identity is still under official verification.
Emergency work and body recovery
The fire, which spread rapidly through the structure located on Street C of the aforementioned sector, generated moments of deep anguish among the neighbors, who witnessed how the flames consumed the home. Immediately, units from the Mao Fire Department moved to the scene to extinguish the blaze and prevent the fire from reaching neighboring properties.
The forensic doctor, Dr. Jackelin Salcedo, confirmed the death of the five people after an exhaustive inspection of the property once the fire was brought under control.
After bringing the situation under control, National Police agents cordoned off the area, allowing members of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to proceed with the removal of the bodies. Subsequently, the remains were transported to the INACIF headquarters in Santiago for the relevant legal procedures.
Ongoing research
So far, the causes that originated this fatal fire remain under investigation. The competent authorities are working on collecting testimonies and conducting a technical analysis of the home to determine what factors caused the rapid spread of the fire and whether there were obstacles that prevented the victims from exiting.
