Jasson Domínguez: The Martian is Consecrated in New York
Patience has paid off. After years of anticipation and a challenging recovery, Dominican Jasson Domínguez has secured his starting position with the New York Yankees, generating optimism within the organization. Known as “El Marciano” since his days as a star prospect, Domínguez made a strong debut in September 2023, hitting a home run in his first at-bat against Justin Verlander. However, Tommy John surgery interrupted his promising career in the Major Leagues. In 2024, already recovered, he faced the challenge of finding playing time, competing in a garden full of figures like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Alex Verdugo. The departure of Soto in the offseason opened a window for Dominguez, who has not wasted the opportunity. After a solid month of May, his performance has stood out, showing an offensive line of .383/.415/.583, with two home runs and eight RBIs in his last 60 at-bats before Thursday.Manager Aaron Boone praised his evolution: “He has taken great strides, especially on defense. He has continued to improve hitting right-handed and is making a real impact on the team.” Luis Rojas, third base coach and responsible for the development of the outfielders, highlighted his defensive progress: “He’s taking better routes, reading the ball better. It’s really nice to see the development of a young man with as much talent as Jasson.” With 63 games as a left fielder, 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts, and consistent offensive performance, Domínguez has established himself as a fundamental element in the present and future of the New York team. Rojas concludes with optimism: “In that boy, only growth is seen. In his talent, no limit is seen. It’s exciting to think about how good he will continue to be as he gains experience.”It definitely feels good. Now that I’m getting the opportunity, it really feels very good. That’s what one as a player wants, to play every day and have the opportunity to help the team win.
