Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt to Undergo Tommy John Surgery
New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt will undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career, according to manager Aaron Boone.
Schmidt, who will undergo the procedure to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament this Friday, will miss the remainder of the 2025 season and most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
An MRI performed last Friday confirmed the injury. Schmidt, who said he had been dealing with elbow pain since June 4, left his start against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 3 after only three innings due to the discomfort.
Schmidt, 29, also underwent the procedure in 2017. The player, selected in the first round of 2017, had an effectiveness of 3.32 in 14 starts this season.
The Yankees’ ace, right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole, also underwent Tommy John surgery in March.
