DGII accelerates the simplification of procedures to facilitate tax compliance
The General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) has taken a significant step in its institutional modernization process. In less than two months, the entity managed to increase the number of simplified procedures from 33 to 68, a measure aimed at drastically reducing the administrative burdens faced by both companies and individual taxpayers.
During a meeting with the National Union of Entrepreneurs (UNE), the institution’s general director, Pedro Porfirio Urrutia Sangiovanni, highlighted that the tax administration currently manages a catalog of 421 procedures. Of this total, 156 processes have already been optimized or are under constant review, which is equivalent to 37.1% of the entity’s operational flow.
Strategic advances in tax management
The official detailed that, between July and September 10, 35 new simplified procedures were added to the 33 that were already operational. In addition, there are another 88 additional procedures in the transformation phase, which demonstrates the DGII’s commitment to streamlining the relationship with the productive sector.
These actions are part of a comprehensive strategy to modernize our services, reduce the need for in-person visits, and decrease both the requirements and the costs associated with taxpayers’ compliance with tax obligations.
Pedro Porfirio Urrutia Sangiovanni, Director General of the DGII.
Digitization and financial results
Digital transformation has been a fundamental pillar for the institution’s recent achievements. According to data shared by Urrutia Sangiovanni, digitalization has allowed for the strengthening of operational efficiency, consolidating key advances in the national tax system:
- Closing of the 2025 fiscal year with collections reaching RD$913.821 billion, representing an 8% growth.
- Consolidation of electronic invoicing, now exceeding 80,000 issuing taxpayers.
- Reduction of operational burden through the use of advanced technological tools.
With these initiatives, the DGII reaffirms its objective of continuing to review its service catalog, always seeking to facilitate compliance with tax obligations and foster a more agile environment for the country’s economic development.
