Tristan Wirfs, Buccaneers Star, Could Miss Season Start Due to Injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers star offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs could miss the start of the regular season due to a knee injury, according to sources.

Wirfs is likely to start the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. If placed on this list, he will miss at least the first four games of Tampa Bay.

Wirfs underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday, after originally injuring his right knee last season.

Two-time All-Pro, Wirfs has worn a knee brace during the Buccaneers’ offseason program. After experiencing multiple setbacks, he opted to undergo surgery instead of continuing to play with the injury.

Despite the injury, Wirfs played 16 games last season and was selected for his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl.

Wirfs, 26, was Tampa Bay’s first-round pick in the 2020 draft and has played 79 games, all as a starter, during his five-year career.
