Weather forecast: Downpours and high temperatures prevail in Dominican territory
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has reported that atmospheric conditions for this Tuesday will be influenced by a weak trough. This system, in combination with local effects of daytime heating and the country’s topography, will cause showers during the early hours of the day and isolated downpours with thunderstorms and wind gusts in the late afternoon.
During the early morning, short-duration rainfall was reported in southern coastal areas, affecting provinces such as La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Peravia, and Greater Santo Domingo. It is expected that, after these morning showers pass, the sky will become mostly clear or have scattered clouds for much of the morning.
Evening forecast details
As the afternoon progresses and into the early hours of the night, an increase in cloudiness is expected, which will lead to local precipitation and electrical activity in specific sectors of the country, including:
- Monte Plata and Hato Mayor
- Duarte
- La Vega and Monseñor Nouel
- San Juan and Elías Piña
Recommendations for intense heat
Alofoke Deportes reminds the public that temperatures will remain hot, with a high heat index due to humidity. In addition, the persistence of Saharan dust particles in light concentrations will contribute to maintaining a stifling environment.
It is essential to stay hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid direct sun exposure, especially between the hours of 11:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the afternoon.
It is urged to especially protect high-risk groups, such as children, the elderly, and pregnant individuals, by keeping them in ventilated and cool spaces.
Conditions in Greater Santo Domingo
In Greater Santo Domingo, cloud increases are expected with morning showers in the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo Norte, Oeste, and Este, giving way to scattered clouds for the rest of the day. Maximum temperatures will remain between 34 °C and 36 °C, while minimums will range between 24 °C and 26 °C.
