Alleged unequal treatment reported in DIGESETT operations in Peralta, Azua
The municipality of Peralta, in the province of Azua, is at the center of controversy following recent enforcement operations carried out by agents of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT). Local residents have raised their voices to describe the operations as excessive and marked by unequal treatment toward citizens.
According to the testimonies of community members, the deployment of agents has focused mainly on the inspection of drivers and motorcyclists who use their vehicles to travel to their agricultural work and daily commitments. Those affected denounce that these individuals, who are carrying out their productive activities, are the main target of fines, while other higher-risk behaviors seem to be ignored.
Selectivity in oversight is questioned
One of the points of greatest tension is the perception of selectivity in the application of the law. The inhabitants of Peralta pointed out that, while workers are being pressured, the same firmness is not observed regarding the so-called motorcycle “calibrators,” who perform dangerous maneuvers on public roads, putting the physical integrity of pedestrians and other drivers at risk.
Residents do not oppose compliance with traffic regulations, but they demand that authorities act with fairness, intervening equally against those who truly break the rules and compromise road safety.
