18 packages of alleged marijuana seized in military operation in Azua
In a strategic operation carried out by members of the G-2 and troops of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), the authorities managed to arrest a man while he was transporting a shipment of narcotic substances at kilometer 15 of the Azua province.
The detainee, identified as Edwin Jiménez Darío, was intercepted by the military during routine inspection and control duties in the aforementioned area. At the time of the search, the individual did not present his identity document to the law enforcement officers.
Finding details
Jiménez Darío was traveling in a black Nissan pickup truck, license plate L307728. After a thorough inspection of the vehicle, the military discovered a structure fitted under the bed of the truck, specifically designed to conceal illicit merchandise.
The seized substance, which was distributed in 18 packages wrapped in black plastic bags, reached a total weight of 84.2 pounds, confirming the success of the military intelligence operation in the south of the country.
Legal procedure
Following the discovery, both the driver and the vehicle, as well as the alleged drugs, were immediately taken into custody. Subsequently, the case was formally handed over to the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the presence of representatives from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Azua.
Currently, the competent authorities are keeping investigations open to determine the origin of the shipment and to delve into the criminal liabilities of Jiménez Darío before the corresponding courts.
