The Queens of the Caribbean start their title defense with authority in the Norceca Qualifier
The Dominican Republic women’s national volleyball team, known globally as the Queens of the Caribbean, began their journey in the Norceca Qualifying Championship with a resounding victory. The Quisqueyan team overcame Costa Rica in straight sets, demonstrating their hierarchy on the court from the very first whistle.
The match, which lasted just 54 minutes, ended with partial scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-10, evidencing the absolute dominance of the Dominicans over their Central American rivals.
Stellar offense and statistical dominance
Despite resting several of their starting players, the Dominican coaching staff saw their substitute players take center stage with great effectiveness. Flormarie Heredia led the offense with a total of 18 points, all achieved through accurate attacks.
- Alondra Tapia: 16 points (11 attacks, one block and four service aces).
- Massiel Matos: 14 points (10 attacks and four service points).
- Geraldine González: 9 points (five blocks, three attacks and one service point).
The superiority in the statistics was notable: the Dominican Republic dominated 44-12 in attacks, achieved 14 direct service points compared to none from Costa Rica, and surpassed its opponents 6-2 in blocks.
For the Costa Rican team, María del Sol Venegas was the top scorer with five points, followed by María Sofía Arroyo with four and Lakysha Thompson with three.

The match concluded with a service ace by Yaneiris Rodríguez, sealing the final score in the third set. With this victory, the Queens of the Caribbean prepare for their next commitment on the calendar, where they will face the Cuban national team this Saturday, August 22nd, at 8:30 at night.
