Reinas del Caribe start their title defense in the Norceca Qualifier with a resounding victory
The Queens of the Caribbean have begun their journey in the Norceca Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship with a sweeping performance. The national team dominated their match against Costa Rica from start to finish, achieving a straight-sets victory (3-0) that reaffirms their regional hierarchy.
The match, which lasted a brief 54 minutes, showcased the technical superiority of the Dominican team, which prevailed with set scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-10. Despite having much of its starting roster in reserve, the team demonstrated depth and offensive force.
Offensive leadership and dominant statistics
Outside hitter Flormarie Heredia emerged as the star of the match by recording 18 points, all of them achieved through powerful attacks. The Dominican offense was supported by:
- Alondra Tapia: 16 points (11 attacks, 1 block, and 4 aces).
- Massiel Matos: 14 units (10 attacks and 4 points from the serve).
- Geraldine González: 9 points (including 5 effective blocks).
The Dominican superiority was reflected in the collective statistics: 44-12 in attacks, 14 direct service points against zero from their rivals, and a 6-2 advantage in blocks.
On the Costa Rican side, María del Sol Venegas tried to lead the resistance with 5 points, followed by María Sofía Arroyo with 4 and Lakysha Thompson with 3, although the effort was insufficient against the pace set by the Dominicans.
Next challenge on the calendar
The victory was sealed definitively in the third set, thanks to a precise serve from Yaneiris Rodríguez that closed the score at 25-10. With this positive result, the Queens of the Caribbean prepare for their second match of the tournament, where they will face the Cuban national team this Saturday, August 22, starting at 8:30 at night.
