United States debuts with authority in the Norceca Volleyball Qualifier
The United States women’s national volleyball team began its journey in the Norceca Qualifying Championship with a resounding victory. The North American team showed no mercy against Trinidad and Tobago, defeating them 3-0 in the opening match held at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo.
From the first whistle, the American team imposed its technical and physical superiority, sealing the match with partials of 25-6, 25-11, and 25-4, making their favoritism in the tournament clear.
Offensive leadership
The United States attack was led by middle blocker Asjia O’Neal, who became the star of the match by recording a total of 18 points. The offense was supported by Stephanie Samedy, with 14 units, and Dana Retke, who added nine points to the winning team’s tally. On the side of Trinidad and Tobago, Thia Wilson stood out with four points, followed by Sadie Torker with two.
The road to the World Cup and Los Angeles 2028
This tournament, which brings together eight national teams, is of vital importance for the future of volleyball in the region, as it grants three direct tickets to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.
Furthermore, the tournament serves as a key piece in the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. According to the established rules, the top four teams in the final tournament —excluding the United States due to its automatic qualification as the host nation— will earn their spot in the Norceca Continental Qualifier.
Said defining event will take place on August 28th and 29th on this same stage, where a definitive spot for the 2028 Olympic event will be decided.
