Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rematch Confirmed for September!
The expected rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn will take place on September 20th in London. The news was confirmed by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia and owner of Ring Magazine, who will promote the fight. Eubank Jr. won the first fight, held in April at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, with a unanimous decision. The initial fight was extremely exciting, which generated great interest in a rematch, which Alalshikh announced would be planned for September. Originally, September 27th was considered as the date, but because Tottenham will play against the Wolves at home that day, September 20th was confirmed, although the venue has not yet been announced. Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, mentioned that both parties are contractually obligated to organize the fight in Tottenham, but this could change.
The first fight drew great attention due to the history between their fathers: Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr., as well as the animosity between the two sons. It was scheduled for 2022, but it was canceled after Benn tested positive for a banned substance. He was authorized to fight in November 2024. When the fight was finally rescheduled, it provided plenty of drama both in the build-up and in the ring. Eubank Jr. threw an egg at his rival at the launch press conference. Benn responded with taunts about the breakdown in the relationship between Eubank Sr. and his son. While Eubank Sr., a British boxing legend, stated that he didn’t want the fight to happen and didn’t support it, there was another twist on fight night, when he arrived alongside his son, an image that drew the biggest ovation in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. The fight itself was 12 brutal rounds of action, which Eubank Jr. won on points, but which left the fans wanting more.“Spurs is booked, it’s a fantastic stadium and it worked extremely well the first time,” Hearn told Ring Magazine. “Obviously, it sold out and this fight is even bigger, so Wembley could possibly be considered to increase capacity, but that will be a decision that His Excellency and Ring Magazine will have to make.”
