Madison Keys Advances at Wimbledon with Solid Victory
After a day of surprises at Wimbledon, where two of the top ten American women’s seeds were eliminated, Madison Keys, number 6, secured her place in the third round with a convincing victory over Olga Danilovic. Keys dominated the match with a score of 6-4 and 6-2, demonstrating her determination and control on the court. In the first round, Keys had to fight against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, achieving a 6-7 (4), 7-5, and 7-5 victory. This was her fifth significant win of the season that extended beyond 5-5 in the third set, setting an Open era record for a single year. The match on Wednesday was more manageable for Keys. Although the statistics were similar, with 19 winners for Keys and 15 for Danilovic, Keys’ consistency ensured that she was never in danger of losing. The second-round match concluded in 75 minutes.“I knew I wanted to take the initiative as early as possible and try to keep it,” Keys said in an on-court interview. “I knew she could play really good tennis, so I just wanted to get ahead and then keep going.”

Following the defeats of Coco Gauff, number 2, and Jessica Pegula, number 3, on Tuesday, this is the first time in the Open era that two of the top three seeded women lose in their initial matches. The Keys’ record on grass at the tour level (52-18, .742 winning percentage) is the third highest among active women (minimum 15 matches), after Venus Williams (98-26, .790 winning percentage) and Petra Kvitova (74-25, .747 winning percentage). Keys is looking to become the first woman since Serena Williams to win the Australian Open and Wimbledon in the same season. Your next challenge will be against the German Laura Siegemund, who has already achieved her best result at Wimbledon by reaching the third round.“I definitely felt a little more comfortable today, it’s the cloudy and rainy England we know and love, so that helped a lot… I felt a little more normal here today,” Keys commented with a smile.
