Free agent guard Dante Exum has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Exum, who also considered two other options, chose to return to Dallas, where he will share responsibilities in handling the ball at the beginning of the season alongside D’Angelo Russell.
In his two seasons with the Mavericks, Exum averages 8.0 points and 2.8 assists per game. He is recognized for his versatility in perimeter defense.
Last season, a wrist fracture and a broken hand limited his participation to only 20 games.
Exum’s return, added to Russell’s arrival, provides Dallas with greater depth at the shooting guard position, while Kyrie Irving recovers from a knee injury that is estimated to keep him off the courts until January.
The Mavericks will need to make a move on their roster to comply with the salary cap after Exum’s reincorporation.
