London – Dayana Yastremska, Ukrainian tennis player, starred in the most resounding surprise at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season, by defeating the American Coco Gauff, who was the second seed of the tournament. The final score was 7-6 (3) and 6-1. Gauff, the Roland Garros champion, had difficulties countering Yastremska’s aggressive shots, who achieved 16 winning shots and complicated the reading of her serve. Despite being recognized as one of the best returners on the circuit, Gauff only managed one ‘break’ point in the entire match, being surpassed by the intensity of the Ukrainian. Gauff’s lack of concentration was such that, during the game, she lost an earring without realizing it. It was Yastremska who found it on the court and placed it on her rival’s bench, an image that captured attention at Wimbledon.

Yastremska: Between Memories and Victory

This track brings back many good memories, because I played the junior final years ago. It brings me many emotions.

Yastremska expressed her joy after the victory:

It was a great match, she was ‘on fire’. It’s the first time she’s won against her, she’s a great player and a great person, we have a great relationship.

For Gauff, Wimbledon represents the Grand Slam where she has had the least success. Since her appearance in the round of 16 at age 15, she has not managed to get past the fourth round. In the next phase, Yastremska will face Russian Anastasia Zakharova, who previously defeated Victoria Azarenka.
