Duncan Robinson Bolsters the Pistons with a Million-Dollar Contract
Elite shooter Duncan Robinson has agreed to join the Detroit Pistons on a three-year, $48 million contract, according to sources close to the situation.
The Pistons are making a trade involving Simone Fontecchio, who is heading to Miami, to facilitate Robinson’s arrival via a “sign-and-trade”.
Robinson’s agent, Jason Glushon, explored various options in the market, including the possibility of returning to Miami, after Robinson declined his early termination option for 20 million dollars on Sunday, becoming a free agent.
Detroit was planning to sign Malik Beasley to a 3-year, $48 million contract, but negotiations were paused after it was learned that the veteran guard was involved in a federal investigation into gambling.
Robinson, known for his precision from the three-point line, represents a key reinforcement for the Pistons, who needed to cover the offensive production of Beasley, one of the best shooters in the NBA.
Robinson, with a career three-point shooting percentage of 39.7%, has made 1,192 three-pointers since the 2019-20 season, ranking eighth in the NBA during that period.
The arrival of Robinson, along with Caris LeVert, strengthens the Pistons, who are looking to consolidate the progress of last season, where they went from 14 wins to qualifying for the playoffs.
