Abadina announces U14 tournament with 40 teams for its 63rd anniversary
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) has confirmed the celebration of its upcoming U14 category tournament, in both the male and female divisions, marking a special milestone as it commemorates 63 years of institutional history. This sporting event will feature the participation of 40 teams, consolidating itself as a key platform for the development of young talent in the capital.
The inaugural act is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th at 4:00 in the afternoon. The ceremony will take place in front of the bust of Don Virgilio Travieso Soto, located on the front esplanade of the Palacio de los Deportes, currently known as Arena BanReservas, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
Event details and dedication
Edwin Castillo, president of Abadina, highlighted the positive impact of this tournament for athletes between 13 and 14 years old. As he explained, the competition not only celebrates the anniversary of the organization’s founding, which took place on September 4, 1963, but also seeks to strengthen the foundation of district basketball.
This tournament is fundamental for the growth of our youth categories, allowing young talents to demonstrate their skills in a competitive environment and healthy sportsmanship.

This year’s edition will feature a special dedication to the National Basketball Team Project for Minor Categories of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal). This initiative is promoted by engineer Rafael Uribe, president of said federation, with the firm purpose of popularizing basketball throughout the national territory.

The organizational success of the tournament is backed by iconic figures of Dominican sports. The executive direction and coordination of the event are under the responsibility of:

- Melvyn López, renowned strategist.
- A select core of national coaches dedicated to the development of new talent.
