Kerry Carpenter to the Injured List: Detroit Tigers Adjust Their Roster
The Detroit Tigers have decided to place outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring injury, as reported by manager AJ Hinch this Tuesday.
In response to this situation, the Tigers plan to call up infielder Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo as a corresponding move before the start of the series against the Nationals in Washington, D.C.
A magnetic resonance imaging performed on Monday did not reveal significant damage to Carpenter. However, Hinch indicated that the Tigers, leaders of the American League, will take precautions considering that there are 12 games left before the All-Star break.
Carpenter, 27 years old, has had a standout season, batting .257 with 16 home runs and 32 RBIs in 78 games, marking his fourth season with the team.
For his part, Sweeney, 25, has recorded a batting average of .221 with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 70 games with the Tigers this season. He had been sent to Toledo on Saturday.
