Ketel Marte is placed on the restricted list by the Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks surprised everyone this Monday by announcing the move of their star Dominican second baseman, Ketel Marte, to the restricted list. The decision was made moments before the start of the matchup against the Boston Red Sox at the iconic Fenway Park.

According to official team reports, the player did not show up at the stadium for the scheduled game. Given the uncertainty, the organization waited until the minutes before the first pitch to officially confirm the player’s situation, although they have remained reserved regarding the specific reasons for his absence.

Adjustments to the Arizona lineup

Marte’s sudden withdrawal forced the coaching staff to make immediate changes to the starting lineup. To fill the vacancy on the roster, Venezuelan José Fernández was promoted from Triple-A Reno, joining the team as the third baseman and batting seventh in the order.

Additional tactical movements included the following modifications:

  • Ildemaro Vargas was designated to cover second base.
  • Lars Nootbaar assumed the responsibility of designated hitter, a role that was originally intended for the Dominican player.

The Arizona organization has not provided details regarding the estimated duration of this measure or when the player is expected to rejoin team activities.

This loss represents an unexpected challenge for the Diamondbacks’ aspirations, as they are in the midst of a competitive struggle and will now have to navigate the upcoming games without one of their fundamental pieces in the infield.
