Jake Paul defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. by unanimous decision in a 10-round cruiserweight bout. The event took place on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and was broadcast on DAZN PPV. The judges ruled the scorecards with scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92, respectively, awarding the victory to Paul. Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) continues his winning streak, adding six consecutive victories since his split-decision loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023. Previously, Paul had defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in November. Chávez (54-7-1, 34 KOs), former WBC middleweight world champion, won the title after defeating Sebastian Zbik by majority decision in June 2011, and successfully defended his belt on three occasions. This was Chávez’s third consecutive fight in the cruiserweight division. The fight represented a significant opportunity for Paul. A victory over Chávez could open the doors to the WBC rankings at 200 pounds, bringing him closer to his goal of challenging for a world title.

The WBC’s classification committee has been following Jake Paul’s career.

Mauricio Sulaiman, WBC president
Sulaiman added that, depending on the outcome and development of the fight, the committee would make a decision. It is very likely that Paul will be ranked if he achieves a convincing victory.
