Kelvin Cruz boosts Dominican sports with the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, reaffirmed his commitment to the country’s athletic development by highlighting the impact of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games, which will be held in New York City from August 14 to 23. This event will feature the participation of 1,767 athletes competing in 22 disciplines, establishing itself as a fundamental pillar for strengthening the diaspora’s ties with the Dominican Republic.

During his speech, the official emphasized that his administration works under a continuous sports agenda throughout the year, designed to offer Dominican youth healthy and productive alternatives that keep them away from negative environments.

We have considered developing a work agenda throughout the year to provide a powerful tool for change to our young people in every corner of the country, ensuring that they keep their minds and bodies occupied in the sport of their preference.

A permanent sports calendar

The Ministry of Sports has promoted a wide variety of events to encourage physical activity nationwide. Among the highlighted initiatives are:

  • Border Games
  • Easter Games
  • Inter-neighborhood Games
  • University Games

Regarding the New York edition, Cruz emphasized that the goal is to rescue and turn this event into an immovable tradition of the national sports calendar. The minister expressed his desire for these games to transcend government administrations and remain as a permanent legacy for the Dominican community abroad.

Likewise, he recognized the effort of the sports leadership based in New York, highlighting the work of figures such as Evaristo Madrigal, Roberto and Chu Vásquez, who have been key pieces in the organization and success of this initiative that connects Dominican athletes outside the country with their roots.
