Dylan Harper promises a quick change for the Spurs
SAN ANTONIO – Amidst the excitement generated by the “Spurs Family Cookout” on Saturday, newcomer Dylan Harper, selected at number 2, sent a hopeful message to Spurs fans, who long for San Antonio to end its six-year playoff drought. That will change very soon. We are going to make the playoffs. I think for Spurs fans and everyone else, our group is very exciting. There’s a lot to look forward to. The sky’s the limit for this group we have. Harper, who will use the number 2, a jersey number previously worn by Kawhi Leonard, also expressed his confidence in his ability to help the franchise make NBA history. San Antonio has recruited the last two winners of the NBA Rookie of the Year award, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. No team has managed to produce three consecutive winners of this prestigious award.Harper had the opportunity to share the court with basketball legends on Friday, during one of his first training sessions in San Antonio, just two days after the Spurs selected him with one of the first draft picks.I don’t think I feel pressure [to win ROY], but I definitely want to keep that. That’s definitely one of my goals. Probably my biggest goal is just to improve every day, go day by day, step by step, and just learn from everyone I can.

Carter Bryant, selected at the 14th position, is also expected to be of great help. Bryant, an athletic forward from Arizona, has known Harper since their sophomore year of high school, when they faced each other on the EYBL circuit. Harper and Bryant’s debut is scheduled for the California Summer League on July 5th in San Francisco, where they will face the Miami Heat. Harper has set a goal of “winning every game we play.” Despite Harper’s confidence, General Manager Brian Wright has praised the former Rutgers player’s humility.I’m training and I see Tim Duncan, Gregg Popovich, and Manu Ginobili. That’s not something you see in any other organization. Growing up, this is one of the teams you always wanted to play for. Seeing their dynasty, [you want] to keep building on those banners and want to add some more.

I think my confidence and all that comes from all the work I’ve done. I feel like I’m one of the people who works the hardest [out there]. I just know how much work I put in. You still have to be humble because as quickly as you get it all, everything can disappear.
