Rangers’ Cody Bradford to Undergo Elbow Surgery

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford will undergo elbow surgery this Wednesday, after experiencing a setback during his rehabilitation from a left elbow sprain that has kept him out of action all season. Chris Young, the team’s president of baseball operations, reported on Tuesday that Bradford felt discomfort in his elbow when resuming throwing after overcoming a recent cold. Subsequently, the player was evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister, the team doctor, who will perform the surgery. Young indicated that the team will have a better idea of Bradford’s recovery time after the surgery, and that this will depend on the extent of the procedure. Bradford, 27, has a 10-6 record with a 4.28 ERA in 34 games (21 starts) for Texas over the last two seasons. He was expected to be part of the starting rotation this season but was ruled out during spring training due to elbow pain. In his rookie season, Bradford went 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in five relief appearances during the 2023 playoffs, when the Rangers won their first World Series title. He pitched a scoreless inning in Game 1 and another in Game 4 against Arizona in the World Series.

“It’s a tough blow for the team, but more importantly for Cody. He had worked very hard, he looked great this spring,” Young said. “Obviously, he was going to be a big part of our season this year, and losing him today is bad news. … We look forward to helping Cody get completely healthy and contribute in the future.”
