Juan Soto, out of the Mets’ lineup due to illness
MIAMI – Dominican outfielder Juan Soto was scratched from the New York Mets’ lineup for Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins due to an illness. Venezuelan manager Carlos Mendoza revealed that Soto arrived at loanDepot Park with a fever, body aches, and general malaise. These symptoms are similar to those of a flu that has affected several members of the team in the last week. Soto, who was originally scheduled as the designated hitter and third in the batting order, was replaced by MJ Meléndez. A.J. Ewing took his place in the lineup.Despite his discomfort, Soto has had a standout offensive performance recently. In his last seven games, he’s averaging .333, with four home runs and seven RBIs. The Mets have struggled offensively in the series against Miami, scoring only two runs in the first two games. The New York team arrived on Sunday with four losses in their last five games.“He’s sick, so he was left out of the lineup. He’s been dealing with this for the last three days and woke up with a fever today,” Mendoza explained.
