Trump Surprised by Ticket Prices for the 2026 World Cup

Former US President Donald Trump has expressed his surprise at the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, despite acknowledging the commercial success of the tournament. During a telephone interview, Trump reacted upon learning that tickets for the match between the United States and Paraguay, scheduled for June 12 in Los Angeles, exceed $1,000 in their initial price.

“I didn’t know that figure. I would like to be there, but I wouldn’t pay for it either, if I’m honest with you,” the president said.

Trump also expressed concern about his supporters’ access to the matches, expressing his desire for people from all sectors to be able to attend the championship.

“If the people of Queens and Brooklyn and all the people who love Donald Trump can’t go, I would be disappointed,” he commented.

Despite criticism over costs, Trump praised FIFA for the sales volume achieved for the World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. According to Trump, around five million tickets have already been sold, which he considers a demonstration of the tournament’s enormous impact and popularity. High resale prices continue to generate controversy among fans and specialists, especially after reports indicating that some tickets for the final reach millions on secondary platforms. FIFA, however, has defended the “dynamic market” system, a mechanism that allows prices to be adjusted according to the existing demand for each match.
