Ryan Mountcastle to the injured list with a foot fracture
The Baltimore Orioles’ first baseman, Ryan Mountcastle, has been placed on the injured list due to a fracture in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot. The announcement came after Baltimore’s 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Manager Craig Albernaz did not offer a timetable for Mountcastle’s return. Mountcastle, 29, left Saturday’s game due to pain in his left foot, after stumbling while running from first to second base after a double. So far this season, he is batting .286 with one RBI in eight games. He had sporadic playing time with Pete Alonso as Baltimore’s regular first baseman. Last season, Mountcastle was limited to 89 games, missing more than two months due to a right hamstring strain. In 2023, he batted .250 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs. In addition, outfielder Tyler O’Neill is also on the Orioles’ injured list with a concussion. Albernaz explained that O’Neill was sick for a week and fainted on Thursday while dealing with dehydration. It’s tough.
